The 23rd Senior Women’s National Wrestling Championship, which concluded on Sunday in Agra, saw a sponsor offering gift a buffalo worth Rs 1.5 lakh. The buffalo was meant to felicitate the best wrestler in the tournament.
Given the format of the tournament, there emerged a champion wrestler in each weight category. Unable to pick who the best wrestler was, the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) decided to accept the gift on behalf of the wrestler.
As per reports, the buffalo was eventually gifted to WFI. Around Rs 15,000 was spent only on the decoration of the buffalo that was brought to the venue with full fanfare. Many claimed, without any clue about what to do with the animal, it would be transported to WFI’s headquarters in New Delhi. The federation runs its office from president Brijbhushan Sharan Singh’s official residence in Delhi. Singh is a BJP MP from Kaiserganj, Uttar Pradesh.
