Declan Gonsalves and Anas Baig secured India’s historic first bronze medal at the Teqball World Championships 2024 in men's doubles.
Indian teqball players Declan Gonsalves and Anas Baig have secured India’s first-ever medal at the Teqball World Championships 2024, clinching bronze in the men’s doubles category.
This remarkable feat comes after a tough semi-final loss to eventual champions Thailand.
The 2024 Teqball World Championships, held for the first time in Vietnam, brought together 221 athletes from 95 countries competing in five categories: men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles.
Organized by the International Teqball Federation (FITEQ) in collaboration with the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, the event showcased the growing global appeal of this emerging sport.
The event was broadcasted on prominent sports networks including Eurosport and FITEQ’s YouTube channel.
What is Teqball?
Teqball is a dynamic sport that blends the skills of football (soccer) with the precision of table tennis, played on a specially designed curved table called a Teq table.
Players use any part of their body except their hands and arms to hit a ball over the net, aiming to outplay their opponents.
The game can be played in singles or doubles formats, with players allowed up to three touches of the ball before returning it, ensuring no consecutive touches by the same body part.
Governed by the International Teqball Federation (FITEQ), the sport is rapidly gaining popularity worldwide for its fast-paced and spectator-friendly nature, with ambitions to join the ranks of Olympic sports.
