Blind T20 World Cup: Sports Ministry clears India team’s travel to Pakistan
Indian team now eyes clearance from MHA and MEA.
The Sports Ministry has given an NOC, with no cost to the government, to a 17-member Indian cricket team to travel to Pakistan to participate in the T20 World Cup for the Blind.
All that remains now is a clearance from Home and External Affairs ministries.
Upon receiving the clearance from the ministries concerned, the squad is scheduled to travel to Pakistan via the Wagah Border on November 21.
The India team is the reigning champions and fourth edition of the Blind World Cup is scheduled to be played at Lahore and Multan from November 22 to December 3.
No permission for the BCCI
This is significant development that emerges as a stark contrast to permission being denied by the Indian government to the BCCI for the Indian men's team to travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy which is scheduled to be played across three venues in Pakistan from February 9.
On that matter, the PCB has written to the ICC, asking them to provide a written confirmation from the BCCI that India is unable to play the Champions Trophy in Pakistan, as well as giving a reason for it.
The Indian visually impaired cricket team is a three-time winner of the T20 Blind Cricket World Cup, winning it in 2012, 2017 and 2022.
