National Games 2025: Tajinderpal Singh Toor wins men's shotput gold
Uttar Pradesh swept the podium in women's hammer throw at the 2025 National Games.

The experienced Tajinderpal Singh Toor bagged the gold medal in men's shot put at the 2025 National Games on Monday.
The 30-year-old Toor recorded a best distance of 19.74m to finish at top of the podium. The throw also helped him surpass the qualification standard set for the Asian Athletics Championships.
The silver medallist Samardeep Singh Gill also breached the qualification mark in the event, with a throw of 19.38m. Prabhkirpal Singh took the bronze medal with an effort of 19.04m.
Later in the day, the 19-year-old Dev Meena set a new national record in men's pole vault with a best attempt of 5.32m to win the gold medal. The youngster surpassed Siva Subramani's mark of 5.31m, which was set in 2022.
Services' earned a double podium in men's 3000m steeplechase with Sumit Kumar and Rohit Verma winning the gold and silver medals respectively. Haryana's Shankar Lal Swami took home the bronze medal.
In women's 3000m steeplechase, home favourite Ankita emerged victorious with a timing of 9:53.63s.
She finished ahead of Madhya Pradesh's Anju Yadav and Uttar Pradesh's Rebi Pal.
Uttar Pradesh, meanwhile, asserted their dominance in women's hammer throw. The state swept the podium in the event with a 16-year-old Anushka Yadav winning the gold medal. Tanya Chaudhary and Nandini finished second and third respectively.
Elsewhere, Niharika Vashisht bagged the women's triple jump gold with an effort of 13.37m. Kerala earned a double podium in the event, thanks to NV Sheena (13.19m) and Sandra Babu (13.12m).
In the 4x400m relay, Punjab won the women's gold while Tamil Nadu pocketed the men's gold medal.
