Five-time Indian National Rally Champion Sujith Kumar has been elected as the vice-president for a four-year term of FIM Asia, the apex body for motorcycle racing for 28 countries in this region. Sujith was representative of the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI). With his election he became the third Indian to join the Board of FIM Asia. Although there were 11 nominations for four vacancies Sujith bagged the pole position with a comfortable majority. Source: Overdrive "This is a significant development for Indian motorsport," said Akbar Ebrahim, FMSCI president, after the win. "We will continue to work towards promoting every discipline of motorsport in the country," he added. The Indian has already been the chairman of FMSCI's Two Wheeler racing Commission. During his tenure safety and licensing standards of the Indian motorcycle racing circuit has improved significantly. He was also instrumental in bringing a string of international events to India, including the Asia Cup of Road racing to Buddh Circuit. The other vice-presidents of the board are from Bahrain, China and Guam whereas the team will be led by Stephan Macky Carapiet of Philippines.
