In a shocking turn of events, Mohun Bagan officials Debashis Dutta and Srinjoy Bose resigned from their respective posts just 45 minutes before they addressed to the media at the Calcutta Sports Journalists' Club on Monday afternoon. This came as a surprise as the much awaited Indian Super Cup is just around the corner. and was based on the lack of proper support and co-operation from the top officials. It would have been harsh to brush away from responsibility in the middle of the season, so they took the decision following the I-League. "We are facing an extreme amount of non-cooperation from our fellow officials and we have failed to take them into confidence regarding management issues." Also read:

"So, we are here to announce our resignation with enough time to let the club recover and prepare for the Super Cup," said Debasish Dutta at the press conference. The season is not yet over, but both of them have done their duties in assembling the probable squad for the Super Cup. They also shortlisted a foreigner who is likely to play as a centre back for the team. Meanwhile, Bagan's Nepalese recruit Bimal Magar has been released from the club on mutual terms. Following the exit of Mc.Dowell's as their main sponsor, both of them have tried enormously to grab foreign investments but lack of support from other members made it impossible to go ahead with the process.
They also revealed that they did not make this decision overnight, it was a well though one and in one case they are prepared to overturn their resignation. Debasish Dutta added by saying, "Srinjoy and I did not want to disturb the proceedings of the club midway through the season as we were struggling before the second leg of the derby." "After the resignation of Head Coach Sanjoy Sen, we were in a tough situation which forced us to take the decision for the betterment of the club." Sanjoy Sen led Mohun Bagan to their maiden I-League title in 2015 and also a record 14th time Federation Cup win in following year.
Mohun Bagan
finished in a respectable position in the I-League after much turmoil in their camp through the midway. First, they lost the services of their talismanic winger Sony Norde due to injury and then the string of poor performances added to their misery. The loss to Chennai City FC at their club ground saw the resignation of I-league winning coach Sanjoy Sen. In spite of all these incidents, Mohun Bagan still managed to win the 'Kolkata Derby' and also finish above arch-rivals East Bengal at the third spot. With still a long time left for the next season to start, it will be interesting to see who replaces Debasish and Srinjoy and the probability of playing the Indian Super League next season will make the decision even more critical. For the time being, Mohun Bagan will have to concentrate on the upcoming Indian Super Cup which scheduled to begin on March 15.
