Kalidas Hirave wins men's full marathon at Vasai Virar Marathon
Kalidas Hirave from Pune won the Vasai-Virar Marathon in 2:18:19. Rohit Verma and Sonika won half-marathons.
Kalidas Hirave who hails from Pune clinched victory in the men's full marathon at the Vasai Virar Municipal Corporation Marathon in Mumbai, narrowly missing the course record by just five seconds.
Hirave completed the race in 2 hours, 18 minutes, and 19 seconds, securing a prize of ₹3 lakh.
Pradeep Singh Chaudhary finished second, finishing just five seconds behind Hirave, while two-time winner Mohit Rathore came third with a timing of 2:19:06.
30-year-old Hirave began running in 2007 during his school days in the 8th grade.
By the 10th grade, he decided to focus on running as a full-time pursuit. Starting with shorter races like 5K and 10K, he gradually transitioned to full marathons.
Hirave recorded his season-best marathon time of 2:24:25 with a score of 933 at the Mumbai Marathon on January 21, 2024.
In the half marathon, he clocked his season-best of 1:06:59 with a score of 922 in New Delhi on October 20, 2024.

In the men's half-marathon, Rohit Verma from the Navy edged past Nitesh Rathva by just one second to secure the title.
In the women's half-marathon, Sonika claimed victory while setting a new course record.
The Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation Marathon witnessed competitive performances across all categories, highlighting the depth of talent in running.
