The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) has assured that the Home Ministry of India has cleared the Visa for the 19-member Pakistan contingent which will take part in the Asian Junior Championships which is scheduled to get underway on July 19, in New Delhi. The WFI were eagerly waiting for the Ministry’s decision regarding the matter after the government gave clearance to all the other participating nations except Pakistan till now. It was a sigh of relief when Pakistan was also given the green light recently. The neighbouring country will field their Freestyle and Greco-Roman teams in the upcoming event, although they do not have a women’s team. Last year, the Pakistan contingent was not allowed to participate in the Senior Asian Wrestling Championships which was also held at the same venue. The WFI was afraid that a similar situation may have occurred this time, but thankfully the Home Ministry decided otherwise. If Pakistan was denied an entry for a second consecutive time, it would have been a probability that the United World Wrestling (UWW) the International governing body would have taken serious steps against the WFI regarding the matter.

"We had assured UWW that there will be no issue this time because this is not a bilateral tournament and Pakistan has every right to participate. We can't stop a team from Asia in an Asian tournament,” said Brij Bhushan Singh to India Today. He added, “If we don't let Pakistan participate without any valid reason then UWW can take any action against us. This could be in the form of a huge fine, not letting us host any big tournament in the future, or banning our federation completely for five years, they can do anything." A total of 17 countries which includes powerhouses like Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Iran, Japan and Mongolia will be in action for the six-day tournament which will be held at the KD Jadhav Wrestling Stadium in New Delhi.
