The coronavirus pandemic has wreaked havoc affecting over 7 lakh people across the globe. In India as well, more than 1,100 people have been affected. Amid such a crisis sports icons of the country are stepping up and making monetary contributions to keep the fight going against the disease.

From Sachin Tendulkar to P V Sindhu, all have come forward to donate towards this cause. Today, India's all-time greatest boxer and six-time world champion Mary Kom announced that she will be releasing a sum of Rs 1 crore from her MP Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) to fight the disease in India.

Mary took to Twitter to announce about her contribution.

She further donated her one month's salary of Rs 1 lakh towards providing relief.

The total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the country has now increased to 1,161 even as the country remains under a 21-day lockdown announced by Prime Minister NarendraModi to stop the spread of the virus.

Olympic bronze medallist MC Mary Kom was embroiled in a controversy after she broke the Sports Authority of India's (SAI) self-isolation guidelines following her return from the Olympic qualifiers held in Amman, Jordan. Mary Kom, a Rajya Sabha MP, was pictured with Indian President Ram Nath Kovind on March 18 at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, having accepted an invitation for breakfast despite being instructed by SAI to self-isolate for 10 days since her return from Jordan on March 13.
