Indian ace sprinter Hima Das took oath as a Deputy Superintendent of Police in Assam earlier today.
A few weeks back, it was decided by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal in a meeting to appoint Hima Das to the police force.
The first Indian athlete to win a gold medal at a global track event, Hima Das made a winning return in the circuit yesterday at the Indian Grand Prix II to win 200m race in 23.31 seconds.
The Assam cabinet has also decided to amend the sports policy in the state by appointing sportspersons as Class-I and Class-II officers in different departments of the state government.
Earlier, Union Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju also hailed the Assam cabinet's decision to appoint Das as DSP.
