The recent past has been mighty good for Indian sports in terms of globalisation and establishing India as a major location for prominent sporting events. If 2017 saw the Asian Athletics Championships and Hockey World League finals being held in the capital of Odisha, a pan India fever of football engulfed the nation when it came to hosting the FIFA U17 World Cup. Hockey fever, now, has once again gripped Odisha in anticipation of the Hockey World Cup. The city administration has not been far behind in sprucing up the city in preparation. According to a detailed report in The Telegraph, a detailed plan has been drawn up and the infrastructure is set to go through a massive beautification process to spruce it up for the big event. The elite tournament is slated to be held at Kalinga Stadium from November 28 to December 16. A lot of ideas are being worked upon. According to the same report, an increase in the city's bus service making it more frequent, improved bus stands and shelters, fresh painting of major public property and development of roads are just some of the agendas on the list. To put a number on things, the 100-bus service in the city will be upgraded to 300 buses for the convenience of the increased number of people that the people will be playing host to during this massive event. WiFi spots have been proposed at nearly 300 locations in the city in partnership with

while plans for shared bicycles on rent basis and smart traffic control have already been much hyped up and publicised before. "We are carving out plans to conduct the city festival. It will be more like an integrated festival aiming at the youth," said a senior tourism official to The Telegraph. It is hardly surprising that Odisha is giving so much importance to Hockey. Earlier, they became the first state to sponsor a national sports team after entering into a partnership with Hockey India.
