16-year-old Rishika Banerjee from Kolkata made history by becoming the youngest-ever winner of the National Full Contact Karate Championship 2025.

Competing in the open-weight adult category, Rishika’s triumph has marked a significant milestone in the tournament’s 28-year legacy.

The championship, held in Raniganj, West Bengal, saw Rishika go head-to-head with four seasoned opponents in a series of intense, multi-round matches.

Undeterred by the fierce competition, Rishika delivered a flawless performance, showcasing exceptional technique, focus, and mental fortitude that ultimately secured her the coveted title.

Reflecting on her landmark win, Rishika shared, "This victory is not just for me, but for every young martial artist who dares to dream big. Competing against seasoned adults in an open-weight category was challenging, but it reinforced the power of perseverance and believing in myself."

Her father and coach, Mayukh Banerjee, expressed immense pride, saying, "Rishika’s dedication to her craft is unparalleled. Winning such a prestigious title at just 16 speaks volumes about her hard work and deep passion for martial arts."

Rishika’s accomplishment has etched her name in the history books as the youngest ever champion in the tournament’s illustrious history.

Her journey in karate began at the age of 4.5, under the guidance of her father, who is also the founder of Mike's Martial Arts in Kolkata.

Over the years, Rishika has risen to prominence, earning her black belt in Shotokan Karate at just 12 years old, and she continues to excel in Kyokushin Karate, currently holding a brown stripe.

Her victory in the National Championship adds to her growing list of accolades, which includes winning the Under-16 Women’s Title at the 2024 European Open Karate Kyokushinkai Championship, where she triumphed over international competitors from Denmark, Spain, and the Canary Islands.
