The 71st Senior National Kabaddi Championships is currently underway in Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Cuttack.
Commanding performances in the tournament across multiple pool and knockout matches enthralled the crowd.
In a Pool C thriller, Maharashtra, led by Akash Shinde, edged past Kerala with a close 39-35 victory. The match featured several captivating duels, but one moment, in particular, captured the internet’s attention.
During a raid, a Maharashtra raider found himself on the edge of the court when a Kerala defender approached him with a playful gesture, extending his hand for a handshake. In a twist, the Kerala player held the raider with both hands below the waist, dragging him deep into the court to execute a brilliant takedown.
Despite their spirited performance, Kerala could not advance to the knockout stage. Maharashtra secured its spot in the quarterfinals with a win over Odisha in the round of 16.
In the upcoming quarterfinals, Haryana will face Services, while Maharashtra is set to take on Punjab.
