Jhulan Goswami, India’s legendary fast bowler once again moved to the pole position of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Women’s One-Day Internationals rankings which was released today. The cricketer from West Bengal took 8 wickets in the recently concluded ICC Women’s Championship against England to guide India to a 2-1 series victory and also cement her place in the No. 1 spot of the rankings.

She now has the highest tally of wickets by a women cricketer with a total of 218 scalps to her name so far. Jhulan overtook Australia’s Megan Schutt to reclaim her top spot which she lost two years back. She is now closing to claim the record for the most number of days at the top. Till now, she has been 1873 days at the top of the rankings, second only to retired Australian speedster Cathryn Fitzpatrick.

The fastest bowler during her peak, she has been an asset to the Indian Women’s team for many years now. She was given the ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year Award back in 2007. Apart from many accolades she received, Jhulan was honoured with the prestigious Arjuna Award by the government of India in 2010, followed by the Padma Shri two years later. She has also been India's captain on several occasions.

On the other hand, batting sensation Smriti Mandhana has also improved her rankings and now sits at the No. 1 position in the rankings with a career-best ranking of 797. She is the leading run scorer in the ODI Championship with a total accumulation of 9837 runs so far.

Meanwhile, Jhulan’s pace compatriot Shikha Pandey has also shown huge improvements in her department too, making a giant leap of 12 positions and is now placed at the fifth position of the bowler’s rankings. Mithali Raj also showed great composure off late and has secured the fourth spot as per the latest ICC release.
