FC Goa had to wait over 180 minutes to register their first points on the ISL league table this season, as an injury-time equalizer from Armando Sadiku salvaged a 1-1 draw against Mohammedan SC on Saturday.
Despite an impressive display in their debut ISL season, Mohammedan SC’s luck faltered once again, conceding another late goal for the second consecutive match.
Here are the major talking points from the match between Mohammedan SC and FC Goa at the Kishore Bharati Krirangan:
#5 So close yet so far for the Brazilian forward, Franca
Brazilian forward Franca had an outstanding performance for Mohammedan SC in his first start of the season, with his trickery and skill putting immense pressure on FC Goa's defense.
His efforts eventually led to a goal for his team, though he was unable to find the back of the net himself, thanks to a few near misses and some excellent saves from Kattimani.
Despite not scoring, Franca made a strong impact on the game and was deservedly awarded the Player of the Match.
#4 A clueless Goa lacks accuracy in passing
FC Goa struggled heavily in midfield, with numerous missed passes throughout the match, which hindered their ability to build dangerous attacks.
A lack of composure in the center of the pitch was evident, and Mohammedan SC's high-pressing game further exacerbated their problems.
The relentless pressure from Mohammedan led to several key interceptions, allowing them to regain possession and launch attacks of their own.
#3 Kattimani the savior
On what was a challenging outing for FC Goa, goalkeeper Laxmikant Kattimani was a standout performer, working tirelessly to keep his team in the match.
He faced significant pressure, particularly in the opening 30 minutes, but remained solid in goal, making crucial saves, including several one-on-one opportunities against the threatening Franca.
Kattimani's efforts were vital in minimizing the damage to the Goan side.
#2 The Brazilian magic led to the first ISL goal for Mohammedan
Mohammedan SC netted their first goal in the Indian Super League when Brazilian forward Franca won a penalty through his skillful maneuvering, evading the experienced defender Odei Onaindia.
The Spaniard's attempt to foul Franca in the box resulted in a crucial penalty for the hosts.
Argentine midfielder Alexis Gomez stepped up to take the spot-kick, converting it confidently into the bottom right corner, while Kattimani misjudged the shot and dove in the opposite direction.
#1 Second consecutive goal for Armando Sadiku
FC Goa's star striker, Armando Sadiku, salvaged an important point for his team with an injury-time equalizer, preventing what would have been their second consecutive defeat of the season.
This marked Sadiku's second goal for the club, and crucially, it helped them secure their first points of the season.
