Indian Super League (ISL) club NorthEast United FC have signed Irishman Andy Keogh. The 33-year-old, who plays for Saudi Arabian Division 1 club Al-Qadsiah, scored 55 goals in 122 matches for the club. He has also represented the Republic of Ireland in 30 games from which he has 2 goals.

Keogh began his career in England with clubs like Leeds

United and Bury FC, before venturing into clubs in Australia, Thailand and

Saudi Arabia.

NorthEast United, who are managed by former Juventus, Real

Madrid and Croatia wingback Robert Jarni, announced the transfer on Twitter.

As per news, the ISL team had planned on bringing Jay Emmanuel-Thomas on board. But the 29-year-old could not clear the fitness tests and NorthEast United shifted their attention to Keogh. They next play Chennaiyin FC and Keogh is expected to arrive directly in the Tamil Nadu capital on Thursday for the game.

As per reports, he had previously also received offers from ATK but the player and the team could not reach a mutual pay contract.

The Irish forward comes in as a replacement for Asamoah Gyan who had been the Highlanders' mainstay up front. Gyan, the marquee signing, had scored four goals in eight appearances for his side. But still, NEUFC have struggled to keep up with the top four in the league table.

NorthEast have scored only a solitary goal in their last four games, and with Asamoah Gyan having been ruled out of the remainder of the season due to injury, Keogh will be expected to score goals.

Editor's note: Interestingly, Keogh's announcement video made by NorthEast United FC social media team portrayed a website that seemed very similar to our website interface. Thanks for noticing us, team!
