Defending champions Gokulam Kerala start the I-League 2022-23 season with a 1-0 win on Saturday at the Malappuram District Sports Complex in Manjeri, Kerala.
In the first half, both teams kept their defense strong and tried to attack. Both made several attacks towards the goal, but in the end could not rattle the net. As a result, the deadlock wasn't broken at the end of the first half.
In the 58th minute of the second half, Gokulam striker Somlaga's shot from outside the box gave the home side a 1-0 lead. For the remaining 30 minutes or so, neither team could score another and hence the match ended with the Malabarians clinching all three points to kick off their new campaign.
