"For every game at Fatorda, approximately 600 policemen are shown to be on duty," reads a report in the Times of India which has calculated that FC Goa has so far shelled out an amount of Rs 9.7crore to the Goa police for providing them with security for the matches and managing the traffic as required on matchdays. This comes to around Rs 31 lakh paid per match by FC Goa to the city's police. Now, faced with no other options, the franchise has approached Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar about the growing costs of hosting matches in the Nehru Stadium at Fatorda. For their part, Goa police have maintained that the football club is being billed as per standard rates even as FC Goa officials draw comparisons with fees charged in other cities. "This is the highest security bill that is being raised by any state government. In places like Guwahati (NorthEast United FC) and Jamshedpur (Jamshedpur FC), the franchises have not received any bills from police. In places like Mumbai, Pune and Bengaluru, the bills don’t exceed Rs 2 lakh (per match)," an official fom the football club was quoted as saying by TOI. The standard fee structure adopted by Goa police has been broken down in the following manner. Rs 24 lakh per match is charged for the police alone while the traffic controlling sector who sometimes work three shifts provide a seperate bill. Additionally, there are requirements of bomb disposal squads occasionally- all of which adds up to Rs 31lakh. The Chief Minister's office has responded to the issue by setting up a three member committee made up of secretary (sports) J Ashok Kumar and additional secretary (finance) and superintendent of police (headquarters). This committee has been asked to submit a report within a month before a solution can be reached. Meanwhile, in a new arrangement that is being worked out, police have reportedly agreed to provide 550 police personnel who will charge the franchise on a one-and-a-half shift basis instead of two as was initially being done.
