India and England play out a goalless draw at the 2023 Men's Hockey World Cup.
Indian men's hockey team at 2023 Hockey World Cup
Hosts India and England played out a goalless draw in their Pool D encounter at the Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium in Rourkela, on Sunday. Both teams failed to convert their chances in the evening with England hitting the post with less than 20 seconds remaining.
In between, a goal from India was disallowed too as both teams failed to break the deadlock.

39' - England MISS!
What a chance this was for England but they have managed to miss, thankfully for India. Sam Ward was one on one with goalkeeper PR Sreejesh, but has dragged the shot wide.

38' - INDIA MAKE A MESS!
Hardik with a brilliant run once again, but India have made a mess out of it. The first shot from Hardik is blocked, he runs in to take the rebound which is blocked yet again.
The ball is cleared before India tries a third shot. An England defender has been hit on the face by Hardik's stick follow through on the rebound shot.

England come in from the left side, PR Sreejesh is down from his post as well to cut the angle. But, Will Calnan's shot goes wide.

A beautiful cross in from Wallace in the right flank to Bandurak. But, Surender Kumar overpowers the forward physically and clears the ball. Good defending.

31' - INDIA LOSE REVIEW
Akashdeep pierces through the England defence and pushes the ball forward in a chaotic move. Free hit given to England, but Akashdeep feels it has hit the shin of the defender and should be a PC.
He asks for a review immediately and is proven wrong. The ball hit the knee of the defender and is called dangerous. INDIA LOSE THEIR REVIEW!

"We need to get tighter in defence"
"Both teams had their chances, but we cannot give away so many corners and expect to keep a clean sheet. We need to get a lot tighter in defence," says Indian coach Graham Reid.

HALF TIME!
A very intense first half comes to an end. Both teams had their chances - and they had them in plenty. But, the defensive units from both ends ensure that the scoreboard is yet to be opened.
A total of 11 Penalty Corners missed - 7 by England and 4 by India, in the first 30 minutes. This was expected to come down to defensive solidity and it has lived up to the expectations.
