After punching above their weight in the first two stages, the Indian women's hockey team were up against Germany in the fifth-place play-off at the 2026 FIH Women's World Cup on Thursday.
India registered a 3-1 win and marked its most successful campaign in the Women's Hockey World Cup in 52 years, since its inaugural edition in 1974.
Salima Tete and co got the better of Germany, coached by Janneke Schopman, who was earlier their head coach and an assistant to Sjored Marjine during their historic fourth place finish at the Tokyo Olympics five years ago.

"It's about revent with ourselves"
"We were very disappointed about our performance against Australia. It's not about the draw but about the quality of hockey. The girls were very disappointed. Today it's about taking revenge with ourselves," says Indian coach Sjored Marijne.
