WHIL: Soorma makes it to the final, thrashes Bengal Tigers 4-2 in final league match
Led by Charlotte Englebert's hattrick, Soorma was dominant in the do-or-die clash against Bengal Tigers.
Soorma Hockey Club booked its spot in the final of the Women's Hockey India League with a dominant 4-2 win over Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers on Friday.
A Charlotte Englebert hat trick and Hina Bano's brilliance were enough to take Soorma through to the final of the inaugural WHIL, where they will face Odisha Warriors.
Soorma gets the job done in the first half
Soorma got off to the perfect start in the match, capitalizing on an error from the Bengal defense and scored in 43 seconds, Charlotte Englebert taking the chance expertly.
Hina Bano made it 2-0 to Soorma with a wonderful solo run from the right, where she weaved past multiple defenders before placing it in the back of the net.
Bengal committed way too many unforced errors and conceded silly turnovers in the first half that cost them dear.
Englebert soon put the game to bed in the second quarter, unleashing a powerful backhand beyond the goalkeeper's reach.
After a goalless third quarter where Bengal improved, the fourth quarter saw Soorma score their fourth from the penalty spot.
Englebert completed her hattrick and sealed the deal from the penalty stroke but just under a minute later, Vandana Kataria made it 4-1, and two minutes from full-time, Shilpi Dabas converted Bengal's first and only PC of the match.
The match ended 4-2 in favor of Soorma, who will advance to the final as the table topper.
They will meet Odisha Warriors in the final on Sunday, January 26th at Ranchi.
