Results from Day 3 of 8th Hockey India Sub Junior (Men) National Championship 2018 (A Division)
Saifai (Uttar Pradesh), 19 January 2018: Action in the 8th Hockey India Sub Junior Men National Championship 2018 (A Division) continued today into its third day here in Saifai, Uttar Pradesh which saw Hockey Odisha, Hockey Karnataka, Hockey Haryana, Sports Authority of India and Hockey Odisha, all register victories in their respective Pool matches. In Pool D, Hockey Odisha started their campaign on the front foot as they defeated Hockey Bhopal 6-0 in a convincing manner. The match saw Hockey Odisha score their first goal in only the 3rd minute as Niranjan Kindo gave them a 1-0 lead. The victors went on to extend their lead to 2-0 before the half-time break as Paulus Lakra also got onto the score sheet in the 28th minute. The story remained the same in the second half as Hockey Odisha looked to threaten in the final third and were rewarded as they scored four more goals to win the match 6-0. Goals for Hockey Odisha were added by Matiyas Dang (37'), Subas Barla (48'), Niranjan Kindo (58') and Liban Ekka (66'). Via Hockey India In Pool A, Hockey Karnataka registered their first win of the competition as they defeated Hockey Maharashtra with a scoreline of 10-2. The match saw Hockey Karnataka dominate proceedings from the start as they scored six goals within the first half to take an impressive 6-0 lead into half-time. The second half also saw a similar story as Hockey Karnataka scored four more goals with Hockey Maharashtra also getting onto the score-sheet as Aditya Lalage (44', 69') scored a brace for them. Goals for Hockey Karnataka were scored by Y Karthik Kumar (36', 63', 70'), Cyril Lugun (32', 35'), Vimal Kumar (33', 51'), captain Vashudev (7'), K R Bhavin Kushalappa (10') and Ganesh Majji (31'). Hockey Haryana continued their fine form in Pool B as they won their second consecutive match of the competition, beating Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu 13-1. The victors scored three goals in the first half and added ten more to their tally in the second half to secure a convincing win. Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu could only get a consolation goal in the 61st minute of the match as K Dinesh Kumar scored for them. Hockey Haryana's goals came thick and fast which were scored by Pankaj (3', 16', 44'), Deepak (39', 42', 60'), Pankaj (55', 63'), Ankush (64', 67'), Yogesh Singh (18'), Tanuj Saroha (43') and Shubham (59'). In a Pool C match, Namdhari XI produced another attacking display as they won their second consecutive match when they beat Hockey Punjab 5-0. It was a very balanced first-half for both the teams, but Namdhari XI showed their quality in the second half as they scored five goals to snatch a 5-0 win. Namdhari XI's skipper Hanspal Singh scored a hat-trick for his side as he struck in the 48th, 65th and 69th minutes while Deepak (37') and Anil (67') also scored a goal each in their team's victory. In a Pool A match, Sports Authority of India defeated Hockey Gangpur-Odisha with a score line of 7-2. The first goal was scored by Kallu Ali in the 25th minute by converting a Penalty Corner. Ranjan Toppo and Sarada Nand Tiwari also scored in the 29th and 31st minutes respectively to give Sports Authority of India a lead of 3-0. Sudeep Chirmako the skipper of the trailing team stepped up and scored a goal in the 33rd minute to put an end to the first half with the scoreline of 3-1. Sudeep Chirmako scored another goal in the 49th minute to make the scores 3-2. However, Sports Authority of India played more aggressively in the second half, scoring four more goals. Sarada Nand Tiwari came back into action to score twice in the 51st and 56th minute to complete his hat-trick while Rahul Singh Yadav and Mahipal scored one goal each in the 68th and 70th minute respectively. The game ended with a score line of 7-2. In a Pool D match, it was Hockey Odisha that defeated Hockey Bihar 4-1. The winning team kept dominating throughout the game in terms of possession and scored the first goal when Sumit Toppo found the back of the net in the 26th minute to set the momentum for his team. The scoreline was 1-0 at the end of the first half. Hockey Odisha came back in the second half with more attacking moves managing to score three more goals. Niranjan Kindo, Laban Lugun and Rohit Beck scored a goal each in the 44th, 47th and 50th minutes to make the scores 4-0 in favour of Sports Authority of India. Turtan Minz was the only player to score a goal for Hockey Bihar as he put his name on the score-sheet in the 58th minute of the match.
