Fuelled by back-to-back triumphs at the FIH Series Finals and the Tokyo 2020 Test Event, the Indian women’s hockey team climbed one place in the International Hockey Federation (FIH) ranking ladder to stand at the 9th position. According to the latest FIH rankings published today, India jumped one place from 10th which was published in June this year.

The Indian eves maintained their point tally consistently at 1443. Whereas Belgium, who were earlier in the 9th position dropped to three places at 12th position after losing 100 points from 1445 to 1345 following a lacklustre performance in the Continental Cups, where there ranking dropped from 3 to 5. The Indian women’s team maintained their no. 1 position in Asia where they have particularly defeated Japan twice in the FIH Series Finals and Tokyo 2020 Test event in June and August, respectively.

The Netherlands continued to top the chart with 2578 points under their belt, it has been followed by Australia at the second position with 2020 points and Argentina at the third position with 1938 points.

While Indian men’s team retain their 5th position in the rankings ladder with 1823 points, below leaders Australia (2350 points), Belgium (2348 points), Netherlands (2155 points) and Argentina (1988 points).

Both the men’s and women’s team are riding high on success and aiming to make into the Tokyo 2020 Olympics with her next big challenge coming up in November at the FIH Olympic Qualifiers. Before that, the Indian men’s team will be flying to Belgium in September to take on the World Cup-winning side. While the Rani Rampal-led women’s team will be going to England for a test tour.
