Men’s Hockey: India win Tokyo Test Event 1 year before Olympics

The Indian men’s hockey team gets a silver lining one year ahead of the Olympics 2020 Tokyo as they beat New Zealand to win the Olympics Test Event in Tokyo.

The men in blue, under chief coach Graham Ried pulled off a scoreline 5-0 against the Blacksticks to emerge victorious in the tournament.

The scoreline opened by the skipper Harmanpreet Singh as he caressed his drag-flick from a penalty corner straight into the nets. The second quarter saw Indian men going out on a goal spree with four consecutive goals coming from Shamsher Singh, Gursahibjit Singh, Nilakanta Kumar and star forward Mandeep Singh. The score remained unchanged in the second half, giving India a comfortable edge.

India make its mark by winning two consecutive series following their success at the FIH Series Finals. Coach Reid will be on a high after turning the team’s fortune after over a year of series drought.
