Sultan of Johor Cup 2023: Indian junior men's hockey team faces Pakistan in opener
The Indian junior men's hockey team aims to defend the Sultan of Johor Cup in Malaysia. The team will begin its campaign against Pakistan on October 27.

Indian junior men's hockey team left for Malaysia for the Sultan of Johor Cup 2023 on Wednesday morning.
The Indian Junior Men's Hockey Team left for Malaysia on Wednesday to participate in the 11th Sultan of Johor Cup 2023 in Johor from October 27 to November 4.
India is the defending champion. In the previous edition, the Indian Colts defeated Australia in the final. The team will be led by Uttam Singh while Rajinder Singh will be his deputy.
India has been placed in Pool B along with host Malaysia, Pakistan, and New Zealand, while Pool A comprises Germany, Australia, South Africa, and Great Britain.
The Indian team will commence its campaign against archrival Pakistan on October 27, followed by a clash against Malaysia on October 28. India will play its final Pool match on October 30.
Captain Uttam said the team is well prepared. "We are well-prepared, and our goal is clear - to bring the trophy back home. The rivalry with Pakistan adds an extra layer of intensity to our campaign, and we're looking forward to a strong start against them," he said.
"It's a privilege to lead this talented group of players. Our focus is on maintaining the high standards we've set for ourselves and showing the world the spirit and skill of Indian hockey," Uttam added.
Vice-captain Rajinder Singh said: "The Sultan of Johor Cup is a platform for us to showcase our abilities, and we're determined to defend our title with determination and teamwork. The tournament brings a level of competition that will push us to be our best."
The Sultan of Johor Cup 2023 is a key platform for the Indian boys ahead of their FIH Hockey Men's Junior World Cup 2023 campaign. "It provides a vital opportunity for us to demonstrate our capabilities and readiness for the upcoming World Cup. So, we are eager to give our best,” Rajinder Singh added.
