International hockey is set to return to the national capital of Delhi as Hockey India announced Germany's tour of India for a two-match test series on Tuesday.
The Olympic silver medalist and current World Champion Germany will travel in October to play a two-match test series against India on the 23rd and 24th of October in the Major Dhyan Chand Stadium National Stadium of the national capital.
Both teams last met in the 2024 Paris Olympics semi-finals with Germany getting better of India by one goal in a tight game that ended 3-2 in their favour.
They lost to the Netherlands in the final to clinch the silver medal while India defeated Spain in the bronze medal match to claim their consecutive bronze medal at the Olympics.
"This bilateral series against Germany will be a remarkable showcase of world-class hockey. Both India and Germany have a rich history in the sport, and this series will allow fans to witness an intense competition between two of the most formidable teams in the world. We are honoured to host this event, which will not only promote the spirit of hockey but also strengthen the bond between the two nations," Hockey India President Dilip Tirkey said about the event.
The test series also marks the return of international hockey to the legendary National Stadium after almost a decade. The last major tourney hosted by the stadium were the 2010 Hockey World Cup and the 2010 Commonwealth Games where India won a silver medal losing to Australia in the final.
Both teams are expected to field younger teams against each other.
