Soorma Hockey Club secured a shootout win against the Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers in the penultimate league match of the HIL, at the Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium in Rourkela on Wednesday.

After a 1-1 draw, Soorma won the penalty shootout 3-0.

It was not all disappointing for the Tigers as they made it to the final four as well, thanks to the point they earned from the 1-1 draw in regulation time.

Soorma were off their blocks early in the match and pulled the strings in midfield, completely dominating the middle of the park.

The opening goal soon came, with Soorma's Gurjant Singh slotting home a cross from the right side at the tenth minute.

Soorma continued to dominate for the rest of the half, and Bengal barely had a sniff at the Soorma goal.

Things started to change after halftime, with Bengal Tigers slowly starting to assert their dominance.

After a goalless third quarter, Soorma fell into their defensive shape, in a bid to protect what they have and that proved to be their downfall as Bengal piled on the attack.

In the 56th minute, Jugraj Singh's drag flick from a PC made it 1-1 for Bengal and with neither side pushing further, the match headed into a shootout.

Soorma convincingly won the shootout 3-0, with Harmanpreet Singh, Vivek Prasad, and Victor Wegnez all scoring their penalties while none of the Bengal spot kickers missed theirs.

In the end, it was all smiles in both camps as both teams managed to advance to the final four of the Hockey India League.

Both teams finished their league campaign with 19 points from 10 matches, and will await the result of UP Rudras vs Tamil Nadu Dragons to know their opponents for the semifinals.
