HIL Highlights: Argentina's Tomas Demene with a brace as the Hockey India League returned after seven long years with Delhi SG Pipers beating Team Gonasika in a thrilling shoot-out at the Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium in Rourkela on Saturday.

The match ended 2-2 in regulation time and both teams shared points, but the Delhi SG Pipers pipped Team Gonasika 4-2 in the shoot-out to win a bonus point.

    An error inside the circle from Gonasika hands Delhi a penalty corner. Tomas Demene's drag flick hits the post...that was close but not enough for the lead.

    Team Gonasika had challenged the PC call and have lost their review.

    Gonasika's Lee Morton with a long run. He goes from their goal to almost penetrating the Delhi circle almost unchallenged. But Morton runs out of steam eventually and concedes the ball.

    Gonasika with the early control in the fourth quarter. Nothing noteworthy yet though. Delhi SG Pipers are fighting to regain control on the ball.

    END OF THIRD QUARTER!

    That penalty corner also brings an end to a fast-paced third quarter. Both teams were eager to attack and they did that wholeheartedly. The end product? A goal apiece for both.

    While Victor Charlet found the net for Team Gonasika, Tomas Domene completed a brace for Delhi SG Pipers.

    Four goals scored in the match and all four have come from the overseas stars. Indians yet to open their account in 2024 HIL!

    HIL Trivia: Harendra Singh once lifted the HIL Trophy.

    Currently sitting as an expert in the HIL match show and coach of the Indian women's national team, Harendra Singh lifted the HIL trophy back in 2015.

    He led Ranchi Rays in 2015 to a solid title win against Punjab Warriors.

    The first drag flick his Victor Charlet, the first runner, and Delhi are handed yet another PC. The injection goes to Tomas Domene this time and unlike twice earlier this evening, the Argentine fails to find the net.

    Brilliant double save there from Oliver Payne there to keep the ball out.

    Talk about hitting back and hitting back hard. Tomas Domene finds himself at just the right position to deflect in a pass from the left flank. Beautiful goal.

    36'- GONASIKA SCOREEEE!

    Araijeet Hundal earns a PC for Team Gonasika. Jack Waller with an inch perfect injection and there is no stopping Victor Charlet's powerful drag flick. It goes in without even a single touch or deflection from anyone.

    Paul Revington, the Gonasika coach is elated in the sidelines. They have come from behind to take the lead.

    33' - Good start to the second half

    A visible increase in intensity from both sides. There seems to be a spring in the step of the players and both teams are eager to press forward and attack. Delhi SG Pipers do come close, but the Team Gonasika defence has things under control.
