FIH Women's World Cup LIVE: After a splendid start to their campaign at the 2026 FIH Women's Hockey World Cup with a draw against China and a thumping win over South Africa, the Indian women's team is set for a crucial clash against England.
The equation for Salima Tete and co is simple. Win or hold England for a draw and advance to Phase 2. Lose and undo all the good work they have done so far.

Lalremsiami earns a penalty corner for India on the counter. Deepika absolutely picks the bones out of the ball with her drag flick, but Miriam Pritchard just extends her right leg to block it away.

England are having the better passage of play currently. They seem to be more threatening now, but the Indian defence is holding steady.
They haven't allowed England to create any clear chances, while they are threatening on counter.

A good circle penetration from India on a counter. A good 1-2 play to open up the defence, but the final deflection is put wide.

A sedate start to the second quarter with a couple of midfield turnovers. India are playing a high press, while the English are spread out.

END OF FIRST QUARTER!
End of the first 15 minutes of play. Some end-to-end hockey during that quarter.
India started strongly, dominating the early exchanges. They earned three PCs as well, but have nothing to show for it. Ishika, in particular, has been electric, causing troubles to the English defence.
England, however, came back strongly towards the latter stages and seem to have finally settled into rhythm.

England have picked up a green card, thanks to a foul from Sophie Hamilton.
They are down to ten players for the next two minutes.

11' - England hit wide
All of a sudden, England have come alive in the contest. They draw a foul on the left flank just ouside the shooting circle.
The free hit is taken quickly and the ball finds Lily Owsely, who penetrates right down the centre of the circle.
Owsely takes a shot and Savita Punia is called to action, but thankfully it is just wide.

10' - Good PC defence from India!
England earn a penalty corner against the run of play, but the Indian penalty corner defence is water tight.
The first rusher cleanly blocks it with her stick, before the rebound is intercepted nicely by Jyoti to clear away the danger.

Yet another good run into the circle from Ishika and she earns a penalty corner this time.
But as was the case twice before, India have missed the opportunity again.
Deepika with the dragflick this time and she has put it wide.
All these chances might come back to haunt Tete and co.
