Indian handball player Avin Khatkar passes away at 35
Avin, a renowned handball player, won two gold medals for India at the South Asian Games and represented the country at the Asian Games.
Avin Khatkar, a renowned international handball player, passed away on Saturday in his hometown of Rohtak, Haryana, following a sudden cardiac arrest. He was 35-year-old.
The Handball Federation of India (HFI) announced the tragic news on Instagram, saying, “It is with great sadness that the Handball Federation of India announces the passing of international handball player Mr. Avin Khatkar, who passed away at the young age of 35 on Saturday, October 26, 2024, in his hometown of Rohtak due to sudden cardiac arrest.”
Avin, who was employed with the Indian Air Force, represented India in numerous international events, bringing pride to the country. His achievements include winning two gold medals at the South Asian Games and competing for India in the Asian Games.
In 2023, Avin competed in the Asian Men's Club League in Kuwait while representing Golden Eagles Uttar Pradesh.
In the national circuit, Avin had an impressive record, representing both the Services Sports Control Board and Haryana at the Senior National Handball Championships. He won four gold medals and three silver medals at the Championships. Additionally, he won a gold and a silver medal in the Federation Cup.
Expressing their condolences, the HFI stated, “On behalf of HFI, Secretary General Dr. Pritpal Singh Saluja extends heartfelt condolences to Mr. Khatkar’s family, friends, and colleagues who had the privilege of working alongside him. May his soul rest in eternal peace.”
