2010 Asian Games bronze medallist, Ashish Kumar has been handed the command of the Indian team for upcoming gymnastics World Challenge Cup Series. The tournament will take place in Osijek, Croatia from May 23 to 26. The three-member squad, which will be led by Ashish, will also have Rakesh Kumar Patra and Shraddha Talekar. As per the PTI report, Kumar, who won bronze in the floor exercise category in the 2010 Asiad, will take part in four men's events—floor, vault, parallel bars and horizontal bars. On the other hand, Patra will compete in three categories—rings, parallel bars and horizontal bars, while Talekar will make her international debut in Croatia. She will take part in three events namely, uneven bars, beam and floor. PTI has also reported that the Gymnastics Federation of India (GFI) has permitted these gymnasts to be accompanied by their personal coaches, Ashwini Samantaray, Manoj Rana and Pravin Dhage. The World Challenge Cup is a major FIG event with a broader participation of 110 gymnasts from 30 different countries.
