The Indian Golf Union (IGU) is set to host prestigious Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation (APGC) tournaments in 2025 and 2026, according to IGU President Brijinder Singh.

The move, supported by international golf bodies such as the International Golf Federation (IGF) and the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews (R&A), is expected to provide significant opportunities for Indian golfers.

“We have asked the APGC to give us events to host and will keep pressing them. Hosting these events would allow our golfers to play top competitions at home and benefit from the home advantage,” Singh said.

The IGU has also been promoting golf in the Northeast with support from the Ministry of Tourism, organizing a promotional tournament in Jorhat. A pilot project introducing golf to schools has reached 10,000 students, with 2,500 getting hands-on experience in the sport.

The IGU, which recently gained full voting membership in the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), has been focusing on fostering talent and preparing for events like the $2 million Indian Open on the DP World Tour. With plans to send Indian players to 12-15 international tournaments in 2025, the IGU aims to elevate the sport’s profile in the country.

“Strong relationships with global golf organizations have yielded great results, and the progress we’ve made will greatly benefit Indian golfers in the coming years,” Singh added.
