Mizo Falcons beat fancied Assam Titans to lift NEFL trophy
Mizo Falcons lifted the maiden Northeast Futsal League (NEFL) by defeating Assam Titans in style by 5-0 at KNC Bordoloi Indoor Stadium in Guwahati, Assam on Saturday.
Mizo Falcons lifted the maiden Northeast Futsal League (NEFL) by defeating Assam Titans in style by 5-0 at KNC Bordoloi Indoor Stadium in Guwahati, Assam on Saturday. Featuring a total of six teams, the seven-day tournament is India’s first-ever mixed-gender futsal league. While Alan added two goals to his name, Michael, C. Lal and Lalringsanga scored one goal each to help Mizo Falcons make an exit with a thumping victory over a resilient Assam Titans’ side.
The winning team was awarded a handsome amount of Rs. 5 lakh and the runner-up Assam Titans gets Rs 2.5 lakh. India Under-17 player Md. Shah Jahan of Apunba Manipur was the top scorer of the tournament with a total of 10 goals. Lalawmpuia and Jessica of Mizo Falcons won the player of the tournament -- male and female respectively. And Sayantan Chowdhary of Assam Titans was named the best goalkeeper of the tournament. Rakesh Paracyclist was present in the closing ceremony as the chief guest. The matches were officiated by Rahul More, Denis Gracias and match commissioner was Nihar Shah.
The NEFL being organized by Proclivity sports and Recreation Pvt Ltd is aimed to create and develop a sustainable foundation for the sport of Futsal as a sporting career alternative for the athletes of Assam and Northeast India, by providing the best education, facilities, and showcases to participate in the game.
