The Indian women's Boxing team has a new chief coach who is by far the youngest person ever in the top job. The Boxing Federation of India has appointed 37-year old Ali Qamar as the chief women's coach and he will be replacing veteran Shiv Singh- PTI reported. Qamar had created history in the 2002 Manchester edition of the Commonwealth Games after he became the first every Indian to win a Commonwealth Boxing Gold. He has been an assistant coach for the national team in national camps for nearly a year now. "It is a challenging job, no doubt about that. Ek saal toh inko samajhne mein his nikal gaya (I have spent the last one year in understanding them). Now, I think I have got a hang of how things work,
" Qamar was quoted as saying. "The toughest aspect is the selection process. Although the coach hardly has a role in it, campers might feel that we can influence selectors. It is not easy to handle the heartbreaks and the perceived biases," he added. The process of selecting the new coach came after multiple possibilities explored as a way of succeeding the former veteran coach Shiv Singh. Earlier, 39-year old CA Kuttappa was named as the coach of Men's national boxing. Young coaches certainly seem to be the way forward for the Federation. For Qamar, it was certainly a surprise to get the job. "It has come as a bit of surprise to me, I got to know only last night and I am thankful to the Boxing Federation of India for considering me worthy enough for the position," he was further quoted as saying. Qamar is originally from Kolkata. As he takes over the top job in India for women's boxing, he will be working alongside Italian coach Rafael Bergamasco in addition to seven assistant coaches.
