Footballer Sarpreet Singh set to become the first Indian-origin player to sign a deal with Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich. The New Zealand international who plays at the Wellington Phoenix, according to German newspaper Bild, Sarpreet is in Munich to finalise a three-year deal and will be participating in the third division of German football in 2019/20. The move is, however, taking place in utmost secrecy as Munich does not want any unnecessary hype around the transfer. There is a chance, Sarpreet may get involved in with the first team at some point of time. India witnessed Sarpreet in action at the Intercontinental Cup last year, which took place in Mumbai. The 20-year-old picked up a goal against Kenya and displayed some tremendous fluency in his passes and crosses. He was also the playmaker in the attacking half for New Zealand that brought them a 2-1 victory over hosts India. A photograph of Sarpreet holding up a jersey of Bayern Munich jersey with his name and the number 10 on it is doing the rounds on social media. Singh has made 28 appearances for Wellington Phoenix in the 2018/19 season, scoring five goals and setting up eight more. He plays as an attacking midfielder.
