ISL: Odisha & Mohun Bagan enter international break with a draw- Talking Points
Hugo Boumous and Manvir Singh scored one goal each as Odisha FC and Mohun Bagan SG played out a draw in Indian Super League.
Odisha FC and Mohun Bagan played a draw in the eighth match week of the Indian Super League with both teams missing big chances at the Kalinga Stadium on Sunday.
Hugo scored for Odisha FC early while Manvir Singh equalized for Mohun Bagan Super Giant later in the first half but that was the end of the goal-scoring action in the game.
Both teams searched for a winner in the second half but failed to find the decisive goal.
Here are the major talking points from the game:
#5 What next for both teams?
Both teams will head into the international break with a draw with MBSG placed at the second spot in the ISL points table while Odisha FC is placed ninth.
Odisha hasn't won anything in the last three games drawing twice while MBSG won three on trot before today's draw.
MBSG will take on Jamshedpur FC on 23rd November when the league resumes while Odisha will face Hyderabad FC on 25th November.
#4 Both goalkeepers were in constant action
Both Vishal Kaith and Amrinder Singh were called upon constantly with Vishal making five saves and Amrinder making four saves.
Barring the first mistake of picking a back pass, Vishal was flawless in the game and made sure that MBSG came out unscathed. Amrinder Singh could have done better with the Manvir goal but he was solid apart from that.
#3 Mourtada Fall stands tall as a defensive rock
The Senegalese center-back was brilliant on the pitch and stood tall for Odisha FC with ten clearances.
He used his height efficiently to register six-headed clearances and intercepted five times to keep the scoreline at 1-1. Fall had 19 defensive actions in the game, the highest among both teams.
#2 Manvir Singh is on a goal scoring streak
Indian forward Manvir Singh is on a goal-scoring streak in ISL after scoring his consecutive second goal against Odisha FC.
Manvir headed in the brilliant cross from Dimitri Petratos in the 36th minute to equalize and make it 1-1 for Mohun Bagan SG. This is the second goal after he scored against Hyderabad FC in the last game.
#1 A silly error cost MBSG the first goal
Vishal Kaith picked up the back pass of Ashish Rai in the fourth minute which resulted in an indirect free-kick for Odisha FC.
Hugo Boumous stepped up for Odisha FC on the edge of the six-yard box and converted the indirect free-kick to punish the mistake of Vishal immediately.
Ahmed Jahouh got the assist for the goal.
