In what is an extremely tragic incident, 28-year-old Alister Vaz passed away on Sunday morning after getting injured while playing in an inter-village football tournament in Fatorda, Goa. Notably, no doctor or ambulance was present at the venue of the tournament which was organised by Fatorda Forward. Vaz had got married just two months ago.

The resident of nearby Agalli was hit in the groin area by the ball and although he could stand up after the hit, he soon collapsed on the ground and had to be rushed to a private hospital in Fatorda. He was declared dead soon after. His body has been preserved at Monte morgue with the postmortem scheduled for tomorrow. The reason for death will be ascertained once the postmortem is done. Fatorda police is investigating the matter.

This incident once again highlights the lack of medical assistance available during local tournaments such as these. This is a bigger issue in the smaller, non-metro cities and towns where not much importance is given to having an ambulance or some medical help on standby.
