Mohun Bagan all set to bid farewell to ace striker Sony Norde
I-League giant Mohun Bagan is all set to terminate its contract with its ace striker Sony Norde, who will not be featuring in Mohun Bagan's derby clash against East Bengal this Sunday. According to sources within the club, they have reached an agreement with the Haitian on Friday. The Bagan skipper sustained a knee injury during their clash with Churchill Brothers where he had to be stretchered out of the field. He was fielded only once since then which was against NEROCA on December 19, 2017. Norde consulted orthopaedic surgeon Dr Anant Joshi in Mumbai following his injury and it was suggested that he would be required to go under the knife. He would also need rehabilitation, to get back to prime fitness. However, things turned out to get worse and now it seems he will have to get his right meniscus reconstructed through surgery, which means that he will be out of action for at least six to eight weeks. Norde has decided to leave the club after the derby and will travel to Argentina for his surgery. Norde had joined Mohun Bagan from Bangladeshi club Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi during the 2014-15 season. He was one of the key players to help notch Mohun Bagan an I-League win that season after a 13-year drought. He scored nine league goals and also had 13 assists in that season. Overall, he has scored 18 goals in 45 league matches for the club. The Green and Maroons had been earlier linked with the signing of ATK's ex- Ethiopian striker Fikru Teferra. Norde's departure may hasten the process.
