ISL: Mohammedan Sporting sign defender Florent Ogier
35-year-old Florent Ogier played in France's League Two before signing for Mohammedan Sporting.
Mohammedan Sporting Club confirmed the signing of Florent Ogier on Tuesday bringing an end to a week-long speculation about the former Clermont Foot defender joining the Kolkata club.
The 35-year-old played in France's League Two before signing for Mohammedan Sporting. Ogier also played in Ligue One with FC Sochaux-Montbeliard as well as Bourg-en-Bresse.
"With Experience Comes Strength! Lets welcome our new french defender to the #BlackAndWhiteArmy. Welcome Aboard, Florent Ogier!" Mohammedan Sporting wrote on X.
The club, however, did not reveal details of the deal.
Mohammedan Sporting registered their first win of the season last week against Chennaiyin FC, following a loss and a draw in their previous two matches. Lalremsanga Fanai scored the winner in the 39th minute, placing Mohammedan Sporting in the seventh spot on the points table.
The Black Panthers put up a strong show on their debut in the ISL but lost to NorthEast United. An injury-time goal by Alaeddine Ajaraie denied Mohammedan Sporting a chance to share points with NorthEast United.
With their Ghanaian midfielder Abdul Kadiri Mohammed, who was expected to be the midfield anchor for the black-and-white Brigade, being ruled out for the entire season due to a severe ACL injury, Mohammedan Sporting were under tremendous pressure to find a replacement.
Ogier's presence in the defence will bolster Mohammedan Sporting's defence as the club aim to leave their mark in their first season in the ISL.
With the club gearing up for the high-octane clash against city rivals Mohun Bagan SG on October 5, it will be interesting to see whether the club's Russian coach Andrey Chernyshov hands Ogier a debut.
