Former Delhi Dynamos and Spanish defender Marti Crespi is all set to be released by East Bengal, Bridge can confirm. Crespi was not performing at his best for many games on a trot and was criticizied for his complacency on the field by the East Bengal fans.

His slow movement on the ball and a sluggish defensive approach had resulted in East Bengal conceding many late goals. East Bengal now stand at 9th with 11 points from 10 games. Former Head Coach Alejandro Menendez kept on giving chances to Marti Crespi who failed to impress on every single occasion.

However with the advent of new coach Mario Rivera Campesino, things have turned for the bad for the Spanish defender. The Spanish defender was dropped from the 18-man squad in the game against Aizawl FC which resulted in a 0-1 loss for the Red and Golds.

When asked about Crespi’s exclusion from the squad in the post-match press conference, Mario Rivera Campesino said,’ Crespi is not one of our better players and that Is why he has been dropped. We have better players at the back than him and he really needs to perform better in training to stand a chance to get back into the team’. Campesino also emphasized on the fact that Marti Crespi is essentially not part of his game plan in a follow-up question by the Media.

Marti Crespi did not attend the training on February 9 and was also not part of the team dinner hosted by East Bengal Club. He also missed the training on Monday morning. Marti Crespi was summoned by the Quess East Bengal management at the Salt Lake, Sector V office to discuss terms about his possible release from the team. A decision is likely to be announced regarding Marti Crespi in a few days time. It is likely that East Bengal will bring in a replacement for Marti Crespi before the away game against Indian Arrows.

East Bengal is not going througha very good time. The side has launched five of their last six games and are facing a possible relegation battle. The majority stakeholders of the football team, Quess Corp. is all set to leave the club by May 31, 2020 and is looking to disinvest their shares before their departure. With ATK-Mohun Bagan already confirming their place in the Indian Super League, there is immense pressure on the Club Management to look for a partner, sponsor or investor to get into the Indian Super League 2020-21.
