Watch: Did Liston's 'goal' cross the goal line?
Liston's attempt from afar was spooned goalwards by the Syrian keeper but the ball did not cross the line and was ruled not a goal.
The Intercontinental Cup match between India and Syria ended in a bitter 3-0 defeat for India, with the Syrians dominating the proceedings right from the get-go.
In what was Manolo Marquez's second game in charge of the Blue Tigers, team India missed out on a chance of winning a trophy as they could not find an answer to the Syrian onslaught.
After a thoroughly dominating first half where they led 1-0, Syria were put on the back foot by India on a few occasions in the second half but the game was killed off by the second goal from Syria.
Although India kept trying, it was just not meant to be.
In the last minutes of the game, Liston Colaco let a powerful shot from a distance and the Syrian goalkeeper made a mess of it, but it seems the ball did not fully cross the goal line. Despite Liston's celebration and subsequent appeal, the goal was not given and play resumed.
Although goal line technology was not available, the officials seem to have made the right decision as the ball bounced in front of the line after hitting the crossbar and never fully crossed the line, for it to be adjudged a goal.
Watch the action here:
Syria would go on to add another goal and finished the game 3-0, and India remains winless under new coach Manolo Marquez.
