After three nondescript appearances, Jordan Wilmar Gil finally dazzled for Chennaiyin FC against NorthEast United in Matchweek 5 of the 2024-25 Indian Super League (ISL) season.

He played a pivotal role in helping Chennaiyin FC secure three points at Guwahati's Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium on October 17.

Coming in as a first-eleven player for the first time in the season, Wilmar Gil, who was signed by Chennaiyin FC in June from Punjab FC on a one-year deal, scored a brace to help the Marina Machans claim a thrilling 3-2 victory, their second of the season.

Although NorthEast United took an early lead with Nestor finding the back of the net, Wilmar Gil turned the tide for Chennaiyin FC.

He first scored the equaliser and then doubled the lead.

The 34-year-old Colombian striker wreaked havoc on NorthEast United's defence, combining well with Lukas Brambilla, who ran his luck once from close range and twice from the distance but was denied by goalkeeper Gurmeet Singh.

NorthEast United's defence eventually crumbled under pressure when Wilmar Gil powered a sharp header past Gurmeet from a well-placed Connor Shields in-swinging corner in the 25th minute.

Wilmar Gil dazzled again just six minutes into the second half, scoring his second goal of the night.

Demonstrating tremendous positional awareness and fitness, he chested down a precise pass from Laldinliana Renthlei before calmly slotting the ball home from close range.

With Brambilla also finding the back of the net, Chennaiyin FC emerged triumphant, despite Alaeddine Ajaraie's goal for NorthEast United, which brought them back into the game briefly.

This match marked a significant moment for Wilmar Gil, who impressed last season for Punjab FC scoring eight goals in 15 matches, as he finally made his presence felt for Chennaiyin FC this season.
