ISL Transfers: FC Goa sign Goalkeeper Laxmikant Kattimani

FC Goa has secured the signing of experienced goalkeeper Laxmikant Kattimani on a one-year contract, bolstering their squad with a seasoned professional.

Kattimani, a Goan native, returns to the club where he previously made significant contributions during his earlier tenure.

Kattimani’s career began with Vasco SC in the 2008-09 I-League season, before he moved to Dempo SC, where he enjoyed considerable success, winning the I-League in 2009-10 and 2011-12.

His performances with Dempo led to his first stint with FC Goa in the inaugural Indian Super League (ISL) season in 2014. Kattimani played a crucial role in FC Goa’s league-topping campaign and their run to the ISL Cup final in 2015.

After subsequent stints with Dempo SC and a loan spell at Mumbai FC, Kattimani returned to FC Goa for the 2017-18 ISL season.

He later joined Hyderabad FC, where he was pivotal in their ISL Cup victory during the 2021-22 season, including crucial saves in the penalty shootout during the final.

Over his career, Kattimani has amassed more than 175 club appearances and kept 55 clean sheets.

He has also represented India at various youth levels, contributing to the India U23 team’s SAFF Championship win in 2009.

FC Goa Head Coach Manolo Marquez praised Kattimani’s return, highlighting his valuable experience and leadership qualities.

Marquez noted, “Kattimani’s experience and composure are assets to our squad. His previous successes, particularly with Hyderabad FC, underscore his ability in high-pressure situations.”

Kattimani expressed his enthusiasm about rejoining FC Goa, stating, “Returning to FC Goa feels like coming home. The club’s ambition aligns with my personal goals, and I’m excited to work with Coach Marquez again and contribute to the team’s success.”

This signing marks a strategic move by FC Goa as they prepare for the upcoming season, integrating Kattimani’s extensive experience into their goalkeeping lineup.
