Indian Super League (ISL) debutants SC East Bengal have secured the signing of Welsh striker Aaron-Amadi Halloway. The player has been released by his club Brisbane Roar on compassionate grounds and has already arrived at the team’s training base at the Hilton Resort in Candolim, Goa, having signed a one-year contract with the Kolkata giants.

“I am excited to play in India and for SC East Bengal. The club is steeped in history and that what excites me most is their passionate fans. This season, we would have to play in front of empty stands but I can't wait to play at home with the stadium packed to the rafters,” Aaron said in a press release.

The 27-year-old striker has spent almost the entirety of his career in England with almost 200 appearances for Wycombe Wanderers, Shrewsbury Town and Oldham Athletic. Last season, the Nigeria-born Wales international joined Brisbane and impressed whenever given a chance.

He becomes the second former Brisbane Roar player to join the Red and Golds, following in the path of Scott Neville and head coach Robbie Fowler himself. Although opportunities for him at Brisbane were few and far in between, it seems Fowler trusts the forward’s abilities enough to assign him as his primary striker.

Although he managed just 1 goal and 1 assist last term in 22 appearances, most of those were second half cameos. The Cardiff City youth product is a hard-worker though, and often drops back in midfield, helping create space for the wide men to make use of.

His former manager at Shrewsbury Town, Sam Ricketts had this to say about the striker when he used to play under him, “Aaron is a player who has tremendous attributes. Maybe he doesn't realise how good he is, how much potential he has and how far he can get. He's a player who I've not a centre-half able to handle yet with his physicality”.

These words should comfort SC East Bengal fans who might not have seen him before and with just three days remaining in the transfer window, it remains to be seen who else the team manages to bring in as we build up to the start of the tournament.
