Indian Super League (ISL) newboys SC East Bengal, on Tuesday, beat Kerala Blasters FC 3-1 in a pre-season friendly fixture.

New signings Anthony Pilkington and Yumnam Gopi Singh were on the scoresheet as the Red and Golds took the field in what was Robbie Fowler’s first match in charge.

With ten days left for the Indian Super League (ISL) to start, almost all the clubs have been playing friendly matches amongst themselves in order to build up their fitness.

Ex-Norwich City midfielder Pilkington scored a brace for East Bengal but former Celtic star Gary Hooper scored for Kerala Blasters to turn the tie on its head. Yumnam Gopi Singh, former ATK FC youngster, added a third for the Kolkata side to round off the scoring for the day.

Kerala Blasters started with an all-Indian line-up as Kibu Vicuna’s side were without three of their foreigners in Bakary Kone, Facundo Pereyra and Jordan Murray. The remaining four foreign stars, Hooper, Vicente Gomez, Costa Nhamoinesu and Sergio Cidoncha, took the field in the second half.

Mohammed Irshad was unavailable for East Bengal after picking up a niggle in training. However, all six foreigners got important minutes under their belt with Aaron Holloway coming on in the second half to replace Pilkington.

Elsewhere, Mumbai City FC edged paste Odisha FC 3-2 in a high-scoring affair while the match between NorthEast United FC and Jamshedpur FC finished in a goalless draw.
