City Group-backed Mumbai City FC have on Thursday finally confirmed the signing of Moroccan midfielder Ahmed Jahouh after being linked to the player for months, ahead of the upcoming Indian Super League (ISL) season.

The 32-year-old spent the past three seasons at FC Goa where, under the stewardship of current Mumbai City head coach Sergio Lobera, he became a permanent fixture in midfield.

Jahouh made 56 appearances for the Gaurs in the past three seasons, winning the 2019-20 ISL League Shield as well as the 2019 Super Cup. His incredible passing range and ability to help out in both attack and defence makes him a unique player and undoubtedly one of the best midfielders in the league.

About his move and the possibility of joining up again with Sergio Lobera, the midfielder said, “When I spoke to the management here at Mumbai City about the targets and the vision they have, I was convinced that this Club is where I wanted to be. And of course, a chance to reunite once again with coach Sergio Lobera was too good to pass up”.

Jahouh has topped all the relevant statistical charts during his time at Goa. Last season he had the highest number of touches, passes and tackles, and he was 7th in the list of highest interceptions. The numbers prove that he is equally adept at playing as a ‘regista’ as he is slotting into defensive zones to provide cover for overlapping full-backs.

On top of that, the former Moghreb Tetouan player also has a lethal long ball that has time and again been successful in helping his teams’ attackers make inroads into the opposition penalty area. With a star-studded attack and talented players all around him, this season might just prove that his best form still lies ahead of him.
