Finally, after weeks of speculation it has been announced that the newly formed Indian Super League (ISL) entity — following the merger between ATK FC and Mohun Bagan — will be named ATK Mohun Bagan.

For many weeks, it seemed that after 131 years, the iconic name, logo and jersey colours of Mohun Bagan was on borrowed time. With ATK’s principle owners buying an 80% stake in the football club, it only seemed natural that they would include their own brand name which they had worked so hard to create over 6 years.

The Bagan fans had been venting on social media platforms over the possible changes in their much-loved club’s traditional values. However, on Friday, everything seems to have fallen in place.

The jersey colours of the new team, at least the home kit, will remain Green and Maroon, there will be no major changes in the logo either. The logo will have the iconic Mohun Bagan boat with addition of ''ATK'' to it.

"The culture and tradition which has made the brand a household name has been preserved. The logo retains its essence.

"The addition of ATK within the logo ensures that the fast growing and passionate following built on a short but highly successful period is also being carried forward," the merged entity said in a statement.

Plans to build a world class football academy in West Bengal and to refurbish the existing Mohun Bagan facility, were also announced.

ATK Mohun Bagan will feature in the ISL next season as well as the AFC Cup.
