Indian Super League (ISL) outfit Hyderabad FC are in advanced talks with Spanish forward Francisco “Fran” Sandaza who plies his trade at LaLiga 2 club AD Alcorcón, The Bridge understands.

Sources say that while the experienced striker has not put pen to paper yet, the signing ‘will be completed’ in the coming days.

Born in Toledo, Sandaza enjoyed a brisk rise up the ladders as he graduated from the local club and joined Valencia in 2012 where he played for the club’s reserve team. He would then go on to feature for Dundee United, Brighton and Hove Albion, and St. Johnstone before making a much-hyped move to Rangers.

However, the Rangers move did not turn out as he had expected, and soon Sandaza moved back to Spain. Now 35, after spells in Qatar, Japan and China, he is back in his native country again, at the 13th club of his career. Last season he scored 3 goals and assisted twice in the league in 21 appearances.

But numbers do not tell everything and this video below shows just how much quality he has. In the video, Sandaza, wearing yellow, produces two immaculate dummies to pave the way for a superb team goal.

Sandaza’s contract at Alcorcón is supposed to run until 2021. But LaLiga 2 clubs have been in turmoil ever since the pandemic broke out. Many clubs are releasing their players. It’s learnt that Sandaza is willing to terminate his contract and make the move to India and Hyderabad is his preferred destination.

Hyderabad FC may have been dealt a huge blow with Albert Roca’s sudden departure but the club seems to be handling it well so far. Having roped in Manuel Marquez Roca as head coach, Hyderabad have taken an aggressive approach in the transfer market.

In Lluis Sastre, Joel Chianese, Joao Victor and, possibly, Fran Sandaza, they have a strong group of foreign players. Sandaza is known for his quality on the ball and his sharp predator instincts in front of goal. On top of that, his experience will bring the perfect balance in Hyderabad’s frontline which boasts of young Indian players like Liston Colaco, Nikhil Poojary and Rohit Danu.
