India international and former East Bengal and Bengaluru FC forward Robin Singh will be joining Chennaiyin FC for the upcoming Indian Super League (ISL) season, The Bridge can confirm. Although the deal isn’t official yet, personal terms have been agreed between the club and the burly striker to bring him to the Marina Machans.

Earlier in the day Chennaiyin FC announced the signing of established Tajikistan winger FatkhulloFatkhuloev who will be arriving in India as the most-capped player for his country. And now it seems further good news awaits Chennaiyin fans with the club having zeroed in on Robin as their next transfer target. The Chandigarh and Tata Football Academy product had so far been linked with a move to Jamshedpur FC, but that seems to have broken down with Chennaiyin emerging as the most probable destination for the attacker.

The 30-year-old hasn’t been in the best of forms though, having scored just once in nine appearances last season for a struggling Hyderabad FC before moving on loan to I-League side Real Kashmir FC in February. He had just started to regain his sharpness during the loan spell when the coronavirus pandemic struck and the I-League was halted. However, he is still a big name in the Indian footballing circuit and one could argue that when fit and hungry, there are few strikers in India who are better as a physical number 9. It therefore came as no surprise that a number of teams were looking to secure his signature with Jamshedpur FC leading the pack and his former club East Bengal also amongst the interested parties.

The tall forward, who is expecting his first child with wife Lianne, also aspires to make a comeback to the national team fold under head coach Igor Stimac and his next move would surely have to be a fruitful one in terms of goals and assists for that to happen. All things considered, this could be a very shrewd capture for head coach Csaba Laszlo with the squad looking somewhat thin upfront, having lost last season’s star striker NerijusValskis to Jamshedpur FC.
