After weeks of negotiation, Indian Super League (ISL) outfit Bengaluru FC have finally managed to agree a transfer fee, believed to be in the region of INR 30 lakhs, with I-League club Chennai City FC for the sale of talented left back Ajith Kumar, The Bridge understands.

The 23-year-old is expected to sign a multi-year deal to complete the move ahead of the upcoming season. It is learnt that the transfer fee involved is quite high for an Indian player playing in the I-League but Bengaluru FC are happy with the transfer.

Ajith kicked off his senior career in 2018 when he signed for Chennai City. However, little had he expected that the start would be so great. Under Akbar Nawas, the youngster made an immediate impact and cemented his position in the starting XI.

He appeared in each of the 20 league matches during Chennai’s title-winning run in the 2018-19 season. Through the course of that period, Ajith also featured three times each in the Durand Cup and Super Cup. Last season, the right-footed full back made 16 appearances, appearing in the I-League as well as the continental competitions – AFC Champions League [Qualification] and AFC Cup.

Bengaluru, who lost Nishu Kumar in the summer window to Kerala Blasters, were looking for a replacement for quite some time and had zeroed in on Ajith. However, Chennai would not budge easily and the negotiations took a while. Chennaiyin FC were also interested in securing the services of the youngster but BFC had the last laugh. At Bengaluru, Ajith will be competeing for a spot in the first XI with Parag Shrivas.

The Blues made some quick signings when the transfer window opened but had slowed down in recent weeks. However, they are expected to complete a few more signings before the season kicks off.
